David

Cabecera del sistema. Punto de partida de los cuatro ramales originales. La antigua estación —edificio de planta rectangular con columnata— sobrevive hoy como Biblioteca Pública. Junto a ella se ubicaban las bodegas del ferrocarril y los talleres principales.

System head. Starting point of all four original branches. The old station —a rectangular columned building— survives today as the Public Library. Beside it stood the railway warehouses and main workshops.

Ramal Pedregal

Pedregal

Puerto del Pacífico. Terminal del ramal corto. Su muelle —vista panorámica frecuente en las postales de la época— era la puerta de entrada y salida de mercancías de toda la provincia. El vapor de Pedregal conectaba con Panamá y otros puntos del Pacífico.

Pacific port. Terminus of the short branch. Its wharf —a frequent panoramic view on period postcards— was the gateway for the province's imports and exports. The Pedregal steamer connected with Panama and other Pacific ports.

Ramal Boquete

Boquete — Estación «Presidente Porras»

Tierras altas del café. Terminal del ramal más largo (45 km) y la estación de mayor altura del sistema. Bautizada en honor al presidente Porras. Sus tornavías y casas de madera siguieron activas hasta la era moderna del transporte por carretera.

Coffee highlands. Terminus of the longest branch (45 km) and the system's highest station. Named after President Porras. Its turntables and wooden buildings remained active up to the era of modern road transport.

La Concepción

Centro del distrito de Bugaba. Terminal original del ramal occidental en 1916, hasta que en 1928 la línea se extendió a Puerto Armuelles. La antigua estación todavía conserva su estructura y se mantiene como referente patrimonial del distrito.

Bugaba district hub. Original terminus of the western branch in 1916, until the line was extended to Puerto Armuelles in 1928. The old station still preserves its structure and remains a heritage landmark of the district.

Bugaba

Estación intermedia del ramal occidental, en la cabecera del distrito homónimo. Fue uno de los principales puntos de embarque de productos agrícolas chiricanos. Algunas vistas comparativas muestran cómo el entorno cambió drásticamente en el medio siglo posterior al cierre del tren.

Intermediate station on the western branch, at the head of the district of the same name. One of the main loading points for Chiriquí agricultural produce. Comparative views show how dramatically the surroundings changed in the half-century after the train closed.

Puerto Armuelles

Terminal bananera del Pacífico. Estación final agregada en 1928 con la extensión inaugurada por Rodolfo Chiari. Núcleo de la división bananera de la Chiriquí Land Company y, durante casi una década (1988–1997), única terminal activa del ferrocarril.

Pacific banana terminus. Final station added in 1928 with the extension inaugurated by Rodolfo Chiari. Core of the Chiriquí Land Company's banana division and, for nearly a decade (1988–1997), the only active terminus on the railway.

Pueblo nacido del tren. Estación de la zona bananera. El pueblo —cuyo nombre hace explícita la promesa que el ferrocarril trajo consigo— creció a partir de la habilitación de la línea en 1928. En sus últimos años fue, junto con Puerto Armuelles, el único tramo activo.

A town born of the rails. Station in the banana zone. The town —whose name makes the railway's promise explicit— grew up after the line opened in 1928. In its final years it was, with Puerto Armuelles, the only active stretch.

Santo Domingo · Santa Marta · La Estrella

Estaciones de la zona bananera. Tres paraderos clave en la extensión hacia Puerto Armuelles. La Estrella es famosa por las imágenes del Motor 105 «de lujo» recogiendo pasajeros en la década de 1950. Santo Domingo conserva una de las pocas vistas de estación intacta.

Caimito

Paradero a media altura entre David y Boquete. Las imágenes lo muestran como un punto de encuentro: pasajeros sentados a la sombra de los aleros, esperando el tren. Una postal típica del sosiego rural chiricano del siglo XX.

A mid-altitude halt between David and Boquete. Photographs show it as a meeting place: passengers sitting in the shade of the eaves, waiting for the train. A typical postcard of twentieth-century rural Chiriquí calm.

Alanje

Estación del ramal occidental cercana al Río Chico. Su entorno fue escenario tanto de las obras de drenaje (las imágenes de la draga del Río Chico son icónicas) como de los daños que las crecientes del río causaron a la vía a lo largo de los años.

Western-branch station near the Río Chico. Its surroundings were the scene both of drainage works (the images of the Río Chico dredger are iconic) and of the damage repeatedly inflicted on the track by the river's floods.

Ramal Potrerillos

Dolega · Potrerillos

Empalme cafetalero. En Dolega se desprendía el ramal hacia Potrerillos, una bifurcación de 12 km que servía a la zona cafetalera media. Los empalmes de este ramal aparecen en algunas de las vistas panorámicas más reconocibles del archivo.

Coffee junction. At Dolega the spur to Potrerillos branched off, a 12-km line that served the mid-altitude coffee region. The junctions of this branch appear in some of the most recognizable panoramic views in the archive.

Punto medio del ramal de Boquete y nudo del empalme con Potrerillos. La «llegada del tren a Dolega» fue un acontecimiento social documentado en numerosas fotografías: el silbato del tren, el andén lleno de gente, el comercio que florecía a su alrededor.

Midpoint of the Boquete branch and junction with the Potrerillos line. The "arrival of the train at Dolega" was a social event documented in many photographs: the whistle, the platform full of people, the commerce that flourished around it.
